What is a Scripting Language?
A scripting language is an exciting technology that allows a website to be more interactive with the end user. With languages like PHP or ASP you can have databases of just about anything and have it displayed on your website. For example, you could have a list of products and prices that you want to show to the world, or maybe your selling something. the example below is just a simple database with 4 fields in it. This page contains the code to access that database and display it according to a search that the user wants to use.

What is Flash?
Flash is fast becoming the defacto standard on the web. With Flash and Shockwave you are able to deliver sites with no limitations when dealing with graphics. Your only limitation may be your imagination. Flash is no more than a vector graphics engine. Vector Graphics are math calculations of lines and curves. Flash gives those lines and curves a little character and life. Flash also gives you the ability to script using it's own programming language. This allows you to manipulate scenes and objects on the screen in real time. Check out our Flash enhanced site by clicking here. If you are having problems seeing our flash enhanced site, then go to http://www.macromedia.com/software/flash/download and download the plugin Flash Version 5. The installation instructions are easy to follow, but most windows 98 PC's come with the plugin already installed.

Another great feature of Flash is that it is not browser dependent. You can run virtually any browser to see your Flash enhanced site. Also platforms are not a problem. Macintosh and IBM Compatible computers are currently supported for the Flash plugin. You can use Internet Explorer, Netscape or any other browser that you fancy.

Another great feature of the Flash enhanced sites are the size of the actual pages. Compared to graphics, an animated gif is typically larger in size (kb) than an entire Flash website! The MotionWebDesign file on our enhanced site is around 64 kb.
The above gif image is 77kb in size. The main movie for MotionWebDesign.com is only 75 kb, but it contains the entire web site. If I were to take the above graphic and convert it to a flash file it would only be 5 kb in size. Click here if you have the Flash Player Plugin installed in your browser to see the above image in Flash format. The above image is also not resizeable, however Flash pages are. You can stretch a flash page out and make it smaller without it ever losing quality. The secret is the vector graphics. The lines and curves are always the same no matter how big or small they become.
